WATCH: Anne Hathaway’s rap medley with a musical twist

MANILA, Philippines – “Forget everything you know about rap music, here to perform Broadway versions of hip-hop songs, please welcome Anne Hathaway!”

Anne Hathaway brought the house down with Jimmy Fallon as they covered songs by Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon aired the other night, April 8 (April 9, Manila time).

Dressed to the nines in a slinky black pantsuit, one might not immediately connect Anne—who bagged the Best Supporting Actress in the 2013 Oscars for her raw performance as Fantine in Les Miserables — with the world of rap and hip-hop. However, she proved us wrong with her knack for kooky performances and even admitted to being “a big rap fan” later on in her interview with Jimmy.

Anne began with Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice,” and showed off her pipes while churning out vulgar lyrics with all the refined class of a true Broadway star. Up to his usual antics, Jimmy took it to the next level with his theatrical piano “playing.”

The crowd roared as the dynamic duo covered two more rap-turned-showtunes including 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” and Kendrick Lamar’s “B***h Don’t Kill My Vibe.”

Bringing the last few notes to a dramatic, almost Adele-like finish, Anne definitely didn’t kill the vibe, but she totally killed that hilarious performance. – with reports from Bea Policarpio/Rappler.com
