MANILA, Philippines-Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan and On The Job were the big winners at the 37th Gawad Urian Awards held Tuesday night, June 17.

Norte bagged the Best Picture award, plus 3 others, including best actress for newcomer Angeli Bayani who won over veterans such as Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor.

Joel Torre on the other hand won Best Actor award for his role as Mario “Tatang” Maghari in On The Job. The veteran actor said that he was humbled by his big win.

The Erik Matti film also won the award for Best Sound.

Hannah Espia won the award for Best Director for the movie Transit, which tells the story of a father forced to hide his children from the Israeli immigration to avoid deportation.

Espia is the third female director to win the trophy in the Urian.

Newcomer Junjun Quintana won the Best Supporting Actor for A Philippino Story while Angel Aquino won Best Supporting Actress for Ang Huling Chacha ni Anita. Angel was also nominated in the category for her role in Porno.
