Piolo talks marriage, career, and Shaina
The actor returns to ABS-CBN primetime via ‘Hawak Kamay’

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Piolo Pascual said that if he had his way, he would like his son Iñigo to finish school first before entering showbiz.

“My only concern is (the) studies, because once nag-artista na iyan, hindi mo na mapipigilan iyan. (My only concern is the studies, because once he becomes an actor, you can’t stop him.) When work gets in the way, they’ll choose to prioritize work,” Pascual said during an interview with The Buzz Sunday, July 20.

Pascual also said that there were offers from Star Magic, but that he turned it down for now. He admits though that he won’t be able to stop his son, once he does go full blast in his showbiz career.

Hindi ko na siya mapipigilan. Wala pa nga 18 may offer na, (I won’t be able to stop him. He’s not even 18, he already has an offer), ” Pascual said, saying that Iñigo is currently in the US for the second round of auditions for a boyband.

On leaving showbiz

Pascual also took the opportunity to address the news that he is willing to leave showbiz, should he find the right person to spend his life with.

“I’ve always been open to it  [quitting showbiz.] The thing is it’s hard to mix both, to juggle both at the same time. If you get married, have kids, mahirap yung magtrabaho. Walang kasama sa bahay young asawa mo, yung mga bata. (If you get married, have kids, its hard to work. No one is at home with your wife, the kids.) So I wanna be able to prioritize that when it comes to a point when I settle,” he said.

As for his close relationship with actress Shaina Magdayao, Piolo said, they decided to “preserve” their friendship.

Shaina and I are good friends eh, she’s friends with my family, I’m friends with hers. I guess mas pinipili lang po siguro namin na i-preserve ang friendship namin. Kasi parang it’s hard for us now kasi pareho kaming busy sa trabaho and siguro lalo na ako dahil hindi ko na mabibigyan ng oras if ever I’m in a relationship. I have a son, I have a career, I have my life. So, unfair,” he said.

(I guess we choose to preserve the friendship we have. It’s hard for us now since we are both busy with work and on my part, I won’t be able to give time if ever I’m in a relationship.)

Sa 24 oras na meron ako sa isang araw hindi ko po kayang isiksik ‘yun sa isang araw. So I just have to be fair I guess,” he added.

(In the 24 hours I have in a day, I won’t be able to fit that in one day. So I just have to be fair, I guess.)

Nonetheless, Pascual said he’s not closing his doors on love, saying he prefers to date someone in her twenties, so that they can enjoy the children they will have together.

Hawak Kamay

After starring in the movie Starting Over Again, Pascual is set to return to ABS-CBN’s primetime slot via Hawak Kamay. In the show, he plays Gin, a frustrated musician, and becomes a father figure to his sister’s adopted children, after the sister and her husband die in an accident.

Pascual said that he is in awe of the kids he’s working with.

“They’re brilliant. I find myself in awe whenever I do scenes with them, kasi napaka-raw nila, napaka-organic umarte…I feel young around them,” he said referring to his co-stars Zaijan Jaranilla, Andrea Brillantes, Xyriel Manabat, and Yesha Camile, who won at the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp.

Directed by Mae C. Cruz,  Rechie del Carmen, and Jerry Lopez Sineneng under the unit of Ruel Bayani, Hawak Kamay also stars Iza Calzado and Nikki Gil. –Rappler.com
