Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao opens up about new boyfriend

MANILA, Philippines – Dionisia Pacquiao, the mother of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, has confirmed that she is in a relationship. 

In an interview aired on Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho on Sunday, August 10, Mommy D said that her boyfriend was 40-year old Michael, who was also her escort during her 65th birthday last May.

According to her, they met at a party in a bar, where they sang together. She also said that they exchanged numbers. 

She continued, explaining that he said, “Sorry Ma’am puwede po ba kita ligawan?  Kung hindi ka maniwala sa text, puwede ba kita makita uli?”

(Sorry Ma’am, may I court you? If you don’t believe me through text, may I see you again?)

Mommy D said that Michael was persistent in courting her. He even went to her mother and siblings to explain his intentions. She described Michael as a respectable man.

She said that her son Manny has previously said that he was against the idea of his mother getting married again, but Mommy D said that her love life is her decision in the end.

“Sa interview niya, ayaw niya ako mag-asawa …ang may edad hindi ba marunong magmahal? Mas higit magmahal ang may edad kay sa bata pa. Ako ang masusunod,” she said.

(In his interview, he said he does not want me to get married again… can someone older not learn to love?  The older ones are even much better at loving someone than those who are young. It’s up to me.)

She said that she and her boyfriend have not yet discussed marriage. 

In the same episode, Manny Pacquiao told Jessica Soho that he only wants to see his mother happy. 

“Pinaliwanagan ko na rin siya dyan. Bilang anak, gusto ko masaya ka palagi. Ayoko na makita ka na umiiyak, na malungkot ka kasi pag-umiyak ka, mamoroblema ka,”  Manny said. 

(I talked to her about it. As a son, I want her always to be happy. I do not want to see her cry, for her to be sad, because if she cries, she wil have more problems.)

Mommy D is separated from Manny’s father, Rosalio Pacquiao.

On her new boyfriend, Mommy D says that she knows that news of her relationship will be met with raised eyebrows, but she said that Michael has already clarified with her that he was not after her money.

Mommy D also said that she was going to fight for the relationship. 

Ipaglalaban ko siya. Lahat kasi ng mga sinasabi niya, na feel ko in love siya sa akin,” she said.
