Heart Evangelista, Chiz Escudero engaged

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Chiz Escudero is now engaged to actress Heart Evangelista. 

The announcement was made via social media. The senator apparently popped the question on Saturday, August 23, during a trip to his province Sorsogon. 

Evangelista’s friend, actress Lovi Poe posted a photo of the couple on her Instagram account and said: “I’m so happy for you guys! Chiz and Heart. You finally found someone who gives you that feeling that people write novels about. Someday when the time comes all I have to do is look at you both and always remember to choose happiness more than anything in this world.”

Evangelista and Escudero’s relationship has been anything but easy. They made headlines in 2013 when Evangelista’s parents announced in a press conference that they disapproved of the relationship.

The two have been dating since 2012.

Another Instagram post by makeup artist Albert Kurniawan shows the senator down on one knee, slipping the ring onto Evangelista’s finger.

The engagement doesn’t come as a surprise. The two have openly discussed weddings plans in the past. In an interview with Rappler, Evangelista said the senator, who is 15 years her senior, is a “brilliant guy… a really good dad, a good son, and a good friend.”

“But Chiz, he makes my life all cheesy and lovely and fun, I laugh a lot when I’m with him, I learn so much. I think it was timely that he entered my life ’cause he introduced me to a lot of different things. He makes me feel guilty when I buy something expensive. I think I can save my money more now,” said Evangelista. 

Escudero was the representative of the 1st District of Sorsogon before he joined the Senate in 2007. Asked if he would make a good president, Evangelista said yes. 

“Yeah, no doubt about that. He has all these ideas, he’s so fair with everything, even when people are hitting him left and right and beating him black and blue, he accepts it but yet he doesn’t plan anything evil against them he plans a solution to the problem, he never turns his back on anything. He just goes forward and fights for what is right, so I think he would be a great president,” she said.  

The senator has been married before and has twins with his ex-wife Christine. They separated in 2010 and were annulled in 2012.
