Deniece Cornejo released on bail
(UPDATED) Cornejo goes straight to the Commission on Human Rights to seek help on her dismissed rape case against actor-comedian Vhong Navarro, which she believes to be a violation of her human rights

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Deniece Cornejo is again a free woman, for now.

Cornejo was released late Thursday afternoon, September 18, after completing the necessary procedures following the release order issued by a Taguig court that day.

She went straight to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to seek help on her dismissed rape case against actor-comedian Vhong Navarro, which she said was a violation of her human rights.

Cornejo was released from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at Camp Crame, Quezon City before 1 pm on Thursday, after her camp posted a bail of P500,000.

Cornejo’s lawyers presented CIDG officials with the release order from the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 271. After appearing in court, Cornejo returned to Camp Crame for a medical check-up, and then obtained her temporary freedom.

Cornejo’s bail comes after Judge Paz Esperanza Cortes of the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 271 granted her motion to post bail in the illegal detention case filed  by Navarro against Cornejo, Cedric Lee, and Zimmer Raz.

“The Jail Warden of CIDG-WCPU Detention Facility, Camp Crame, Quezon City, is hereby ORDERED to bring to this Court the person of the accused DENIECE MILLINETTE CORNEJO, for purposes of bail,” the release order read.

Lee and Raz were freed on Tuesday, after each posting a P500,000-bail.

Navarro, who has accused Lee’s camp of mauling him in January, said he was dismayed over the decision to release the 3 from jail, but vowed to continue the fight.

Cornejo accused Navarro of raping her in January twice. Both complaints have been dismissed by the Department of Justice and the Taguig Prosecutor’s Office in April and July, respectively. – Rappler.com
