MANILA, Philippines – Actress Cherry Pie Picache went to the National Bureau of Investigation on Thursday, September 25, to ask for help in solving the death of his mother Zenaida Sison.

The 75-year-old was found dead from stab wounds at her home in Quezon City, Friday, September 19, while Metro Manila was being battered by Tropical Storm Mario.

According to lawyer Joel Tovera, chief of the NBI-Death Investigation Unit (NBI-DIU), Picache executed her state statements with them, which will serve as a formal complaint. The actress has asked the NBI to conduct a parallel investigation even as the local police is looking into the case.

NBI investigators went to the victim’s house to inspect it Thursday afternoon.

In an interview after filing the complaint, Picache thanked the public for their support and asked for prayers so that justice will be served to those behind her mother’s killing.

Maraming, maraming salamat sa lahat ng dasal at lahat ng suportang pinakita ng maraming, maraming tao, lalo sa kasamahan ko sa industriya. Please keep on praying justice will be served,” the actress said. (Thank you very much to those who prayed and so much support from the people, especially my colleagues in the industry.)

According to Tovera, the NBI has gathered statements from possible witnesses, including a couple whom the police invited for questioning.

The actress found her mother dead, with stab wounds all over her body, when she went to the house to check on her during the typhoon. In an earlier interview, Picache’s friend Peter Serrano said the actress got worried when her mother did not answer her calls.

Serrano said Sison was living alone, but 5 people – 3 cleaning ladies and 2 gardeners – had access to her house.

The family has since issued a statement, saying that they will leave the investigation to the police.

Sison’s remains were cremated Wednesday, September 24. – Rappler.com
