Mary Christine drops concubinage complaint vs Derek, Angelica

MANILA, Philippines – Mary Christine Jolly, the wife of Derek Ramsay, has formally dropped the concubinage charges against him and ex-girlfriend Angelica Panganiban. 

In an interview with Pep, Mary Christine’s lawyer Argee Guevarra said that the withdrawal of the concubinage complaint is part of the agreement reported last October. 

“The parties made peace with each other and part of the peace is this one [withdrawal of concubinage complaint],” he said.

In the same report, it was confirmed that the Makati Prosecutor’s Office approved the request to withdraw the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (VAWC) complaint that Mary Christine filed against Derek. (READ: Derek Ramsay’s lawyer says alleged wife’s complaint ‘all lies’)

Guevarra said that all sides are happy with the results. 

“All parties are happy with the agreement. 

 “Ang kagandahan nito (What is good about this), both parties came to an agreement to serve the best interest of the child,” he said.

Guevarra said as a lawyer, a good compromise and settlement is better than a good case. He hopes that both sides can move on from the experience and learn from it. 

However, Guevarra declined to discuss details about the financial support for the estranged couple’s child, Austin. 

When asked about Mary Christine’s reaction when Derek posted a photo of their son Austin on his social media account, Guevarra said that all she wants is for Derek to spend more time with his son.

“I guess, I could glean it from Derek’s camp that Derek himself would want to be a father to his child.

“Although it’s belated, but huli man at magaling ay hahabol din. (Although it’s belated, in the end, though late, one can still catch up.) They have a lot of catching up to do.”

Last August, Derek confirmed that he and Mary Chrstine were married in 2002, and had a son. The two have been at odds, with Mary Christine accusing him of not supporting their son. Derek denied the allegations.–Rappler.com
