Sharon Cuneta’s mother Elaine dies

MANILA, Philippines – Elaine Cuneta, the mother of megastar Sharon Cuneta, has died on Wednesday, November 5. She would have turned 80 this December.

Sharon’s daughter KC confirmed the news on Twitter.

KC also posted a photo of her grandmother on Instagram.

“I will miss you laughing this much, this way. I shared so many fun times with you that I will recreate forever. You are my sunshine, Mita,” the caption read.

In an interview aired on Kris TV Monday, November 3, KC became emotional when she talked about the health condition of her grandmother. 

“Oh my God, I miss her, I miss her. Usually siya yung nag-aayos ng (Christmas) decorations sa bahay at pinaplano niya na ‘yung lulutuin,” KC said. “Alam ko she’s struggling and fighting to be well. Pero she’s doing well. I just miss her lang talaga and I love you so much Mita.”

(Usually she is the one fixing the Christmas decorations at the house and plans what to cook for the holidays.)

In the same interview, it was reported that Elaine Cuneta had been confined in the hospital for the past two months. 

In a statement, the family confirmed that Elaine Cuneta died due to internal bleeding and complications arising from abdominal surgery. 

“The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of sympathy, love, and prayer support during their time of grief.  They thank all the doctors and nurses who did the best they could to care for Mrs Cuneta these past few months.  They are comforted by their faith and the certainty that she is in a good place, in the hands of her Creator – no pain, no sickness or weakness, and seeing Jesus face to face.  It has been a very difficult time for the family, especially for Sharon, Chet, KC, and Mrs Cuneta’s brothers and sisters, and it is their hope that they may be allowed some privacy as they mourn the loss of the beloved Mrs Cuneta.” 

The wake will be held at the Capilla Del Señor and Capilla Dela Virgen of Santuario de San Antonio Parish, McKinley Road, Makati City from November 6 to 11.  – Rappler.com
