Daniel Padilla’s mom Karla Estrada auditions for ‘The Voice PH’

MANILA, Philippines – Teen actor Daniel Padilla’s mom Karla Estrada has auditioned for The Voice of the Philippines.

On Saturday, November 8, Karla sang before the coaches – Lea Salonga, Apl.de.ap, Sarah Geronimo, and Bamboo. However, she did not get a turn from any of the coaches.

Karla performed “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes. 

She said that she didn’t tell her kids that she was joining, to keep it a surprise.

“Ok wait,” Lea said in surprise, upon hearing who she was after Karla’s performance. “No, I have to hug you first…your son [Daniel Padilla] is adorable.” Sarah also got up onstage to give her a hug.

“I’ve been joining singing contests since I was 9…katuparan sa pangarap ng mga kontesera,” she joked. (This is a dream come true for those who join contests.) 

“We’re looking for yung hindi namin ma-describe na, ‘Oh my God,’ ‘yung mapapatalon ka talaga, ‘yung mapipindot ‘yung button,” Lea told her. 

(We’re looking for something we can’t describe something that will make you go, ‘Oh my God,’ make you jump up, make you push the button.)

“Like everyone said, it’s admirable that you’re here. Thank you very much for joining us, for understanding what the show is all about,” said Bamboo. 

“What you did was just inspiring…‘yung dedication niyo, ‘yung passion niyo sa music…‘yung humility ninyo para talagang sumali sa competition at maging ready sa kung anuman ang magiging resulta, wow, salamat po,” Sarah told her. (Your humility to join the competition and be ready for whatever the result may be, wow, thank you.)

“Lahat naman tayo pantay-pantay sa pangarap,” answered Karla. (We can all equally dream.) 

“You are the guest superstar tonight,” Apl told Karla, giving her one of his roses. 

When asked how her kids felt about her joining, Karla said, “It’s not like, tutol na no, pinakain ko kayo sa pagkanta ko, relax ka lang, kaya ko.”

(It’s not like they’re forbidding me – I was able to feed you from my singing career, relax, I can do this!) 

Asked for his reaction to his mother’s audition, Daniel said he was happy for her.

“Masaya. Dahil dream niya iyon na sumali sa mga ganung contest.”

(I’m happy. It’s her dream to join those kinds of contest.)

Karla, who is also an actress, was last seen in the teleserye Galema, Anak ni Zuma. She also occasionally appears as a guest co-host on KrisTV.

Aside from Karla, a few other singers who tried out also have famous relatives. Doki and Rox Puno, related to popular musician Rico Puno, also auditoned, with no turns. And last week, Kai Honasan, daughter of senator Gringo Honasan, joined Team Bamboo. – Rappler.com
