Kim Chiu speaks up on Star Awards controversy: ‘I can’t please everyone’

Social media users took to Twitter on Monday, November 24 to say that other actresses in the Best Actress category deserved the award more than the Ikaw Lamang star. 

Kim replied, saying that if awards could be bought, she would have gotten one early.

In an interview on Aquino & Abunda Tonight Wednesday, November 26, Kim tried to control her emotions, saying she was hurt by the issue.

“Of course, I cannot please everyone. May kani-kaniya naman tayong idolo at gusto natin ‘yung pinaka the best para sa taong iniidolo natin,” she said.

 (We have those whom we look up to and we want the best for those we idolize.)

Ang social media ngayon, sobra nang… Ayan tuloy, naiiyak na ako. Siyempre sa tagal ko dito sa showbiz, masakit din pagsalitaan ka sa gano’n.”

(Social media today, it’s too much…there, I’m getting emotional. Of course, since I have been in showbiz for some time, it still hurts to hear people to say things like that about you.)

Kim said that winning for the show Ikaw Lamang meant a great deal to her. 

“Sa walo kong teleserye, ngayon lang ako nakatanggap ng recognition na matatawag ko na akin at best actress ako. Siyempre pangarap ko ‘yon na magkaroon,” Kim said.

(In the 8 teleseryes I’ve done, it is only now I received this recognition that I can call mine and that I won best actress. Of course, that has always been my dream.) 

She admitted she talked to Xian Lim, her on-screen partner in the movie Past Tense about the whole thing. 

“Sabi ko kay Xian, ‘Xi, hindi ba ako marunong umarte? Hindi ba ako nakaka-inspire ng maraming tao sa ginagawa ko?‘ Sabi niya, ‘Hayaan mo na sila. At the end of the day, na sa’yo naman ‘yung trophy. Iyon naman ang importante. Kahit ano’ng sabihin nila, hindi naman nila mababawi ‘yon.'”

 (I told Xian, ‘Xi, don’t I know how to act? Don’t I inspire other people with what I am doing?’ He said, ‘Don’t mind them. At the end of the day, the trophy is with you. That’s what’s important. Whatever they say, they can’t take that back from you.’)

Asked if she has gotten used to  the bashing against her, Kim said their feedback serves as her inspiration to work hard on her craft. – Rappler.com
