“She has become a friend since day one. Alam naman na may pinagdaanan ako, so tumatakbo ako sa kanya (She knows I’m going through something, so I run to her) for advice and she’s really helpful, a big part of why I was able to come to the set and perform. So yeah, I was able to get a dear friend,” Derek said during the press conference for their upcoming movie English Only Please, Tuesday, December 2.

Jennylyn said that Derek has been a gentleman and sweet guy to her and the cast. 

“Ang bait and napakalambing niya. Pag alam niya na pagod ako at galing ako sa taping, tutuhog ako ng shooting palagi siyang lumalambing,” Jennylyn shared. 

(He’s very nice and very sweet. If he knows I’m tired, that I came from a taping and then I will shoot, he’ll cheer me up.)

Jennylyn said that audience get to see a different side of her and Derek since this the first time that they are doing a romantic comedy. 

When asked what love advice they can give to each other from doing the movie, Derek said: “Don’t close your doors. Whatever that is you have gone through, you take the positivity of that and learn from all those things that you’ve experienced. It only makes it more exciting for the next person you’re going to be with. because you are not going to make those same mistakes .

Yung pain na pinagdaanan mo (The pain you went through), you should learn to put that away because it might blind you from finding the right person.”

Jennylyn added: “Ayoko siyang antayin kasi si God laging lang siya nandiyan at ibibigay niya kung sino yung para sa iyo. Darating ang tao sa tamang oras sa tamang panahon.”

(I do not want to ‘wait’ because God is always there and he is ready to give the right person for you. The person will come at a perfect time in your life.)

Jennylyn’s last relationship was with TV host Luis Manzano, while Derek recently settled his legal battle with ex-wife Mary Christine Jolly after reaching an agreement for their son. His last relationship was with actress Cristine Reyes, who is now pregnant with her first child with her non-showbiz boyfriend.

An official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival, English Only Please tells the story of Julian Park (Derek) who comes to Manila to seek help in translating an angry letter for his ex-girlfriend Megan through the help of Tere Madlansacay (Jennylyn). 

The movie also stars Kean Cipriano, Cai Cortez and Isabel Frial, with the special participation of Tom Rodriguez and Isabel Oli. Directed by Dan Villegas, the movie opens on December 25. – Rappler.com
