MANILA, Philippines – She may have a famous family name, but singer-songwriter Marion Aunor says she is very different from her aunt, the iconic actress Nora Aunor. 

In an interview at a press conference for her birthday concert Take a Chance, Marion said: “I actually don’t think we have much in common at all. Starting from yung music ko pa lang (my music alone), it’s very different from hers. Usually when people hear my name they don’t know about me. They expect like novelty songs or something like that.” 

She also talked about working with The Voice Kids runner-up Darren Espanto, with whom she performed at his concert last year. Marion and Darren trained with veteran composer Vehnee Saturno. (IN PHOTOS: Darren Espanto in ‘The Total Performance” solo show)

“I was honored to be part of his concert because I’ve been a fan of his ever since nakita ko siya sa The Voice (I saw him in The Voice). And I actually got to work with him sa Canada. We had a show together along with Mitoy Yonting and Klarisse de Guzman. I would always get stuck with Darren in the car and at first he was really like hyper and makulit (funny) and all that. And at the end of the day, siya naging close ko kasi may pagka-childish ako (he and I became close because I tend to be like a kid, too),” Marion shared. 

Take a chance 

On April 10, Marion will celebrate her birthday with a concert at Teatrino, Greenhills. Guests include Michael Pangilinan, Edgar Allan Guzman, Vin Abrenica , Edward Benosa, and her sister Ashley.

Marion said she decided to throw birthday concert because she wanted to share her music.

“For this concert, I want to re-introduce myself. Mag-play ako ng ibang songs ko (I will play songs) from my previous album and then yung “Pumapag-Ibig” from Himig Handog 2014. And I want to introduce some of the songs from the second album naman,” Marion said.

The second album has yet to be released.

Marion also said she will show off her other skills, including her piano-playing, and will perform the songs she wrote for other artists.

Despite a promising career in music, Marion said she is open to other opportunities. 

“I want a total package. I’d like to try different things – hosting, acting, etc. I grab every opportunity that comes my way… I’m not putting my eggs in one basket. I take one step at a time and see where it takes me.” – Rappler.com
