Singer Roel Cortez dies
MANILA, Philippines – Singer Roel Cortez, who rose to fame with songs such as “Napakasakit Kuya Eddie,” and “Baleleng” in the '80s, died on Wednesday, April 1 after suffering from colon cancer.
According to a post from the Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho Facebook page, Roel died at 9:30 pm. His remains lie at the Ever Funeral Homes in Meycauayan, Bulacan. He will be laid to rest on April 9.
In an interview last March 22 on Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, Roel confirmed that he was suffering from stage 4 colon cancer. In the interview, Roel, who was bedridden, talked about the pain he experienced.
“Sawa na ako sa buhay na ganito. Aanhin ko ang buhay na ganito? Ni hindi ako makalakad. Hindi ko man lang matanaw ang paligid ko rito,” he said.
(I am tired of this kind of life. What will I do with a life like this? I can't even walk. I could not even see what is happening around me.)
Aside from "Baleleng," and "Napakasakit Kuya Eddie," Roel is also known for other popular songs, including "Minsan Pa," and "Tutulungan Kita." – Rappler.com
