Marian Rivera on how Dingdong Dantes reacted to pregnancy news

MANILA, Philippines – Fresh after the pregnancy announcement on April 13, actress Marian Rivera said she feels exceedingly blessed, knowing that she will soon have a little one with husband Dingdong Dantes.

“Sa buhay ng pag-aasawa, ang magkasunod niyan ay magkaroon ng isang anak, isang pangarap yan sa mag-asawa na biyaya galing sa Panginoon na bigyan ng isang buhay sa tiyan mo so pasalamat ko yan,” she told reporters at a press conference for 555 Tuna on Tuesday, April 14. Marian is a brand ambassador. 

(In a couple’s life, the next step is to have a child. It’s a dream couples have, and at the same time a blessing from the Lord, that there is life inside the womb. So, I am grateful.) 

But the initial shock after finding out about the pregnancy was inevitable, especially for Dingdong.  

“Tulala [siya]! Hindi nagsisink-in.[…] Siyempre pangarap ko maging isang ina, at binigay ng Panginoon yan sa akin. At si Dingdong, pangarap niya maging isang ama, at binigay ng Panginoon din sa kanya.”  

([He was] stunned! It didn’t sink in[…] It’s because it’s my dream to be a mother, and the Lord gave it to me. And for Dingdong, it’s his dream to become a father, and the Lord gave it to him as well.)

The actress said that Dingdong is a very hands-on husband, and that he is always with her every step of the way.  

“Palagi niya akong sinasamahan sa OB. Never niya akong pinabayaan, in fairness sa kanya. O, parang siya yung buntis at hindi ako.”

(He always accompanies me to the OB-GYN. He never leaves me behind, in fairness to him. It’s like he’s the pregnant one, and not me.) 

When asked about baby names, she said that she doesn’t even know the gender, but joked about some possible names in line with 555 Tuna, the brand she was promoting.

But while she was appreciative of the support she got from fans and friends from the media, she asked that the decision of what she will share about pregnancy be left up to her.  

“After we made the announcement, siyempre alam namin na hindi maiiwasan yung tanong sa pagbubuntis ko. Masaya ako kasi alam kong masaya kayo para sa akin. Pero yung pagkabuntis ko, eh, sana ibalato n’yo nalang sa akin. Kumbaga, kung magpapapictorial man ako o gusto ko tahimik o wala akong ipopost sa Instagram, sana maunawaan din naman ng mga kaibigan natin, sa showbiz man yan o hindi. Ang pagbubuntis po ay isang sagrado at magandang biyaya.[…]At hindi naman kasi artista yung anak ko, ako lang at saka yung asawa ko.”

(After we made the announcement, I knew of course that there would be questions about my pregnancy. I’m happy because I know that you are all happy for me. But when it comes to my pregnancy, please leave it to me. Meaning, if there will be a photoshoot or if I want things to be quiet or if I don’t post anything on Instagram, I hope our friends understand, showbiz and non-showbiz. Pregnancy is a sacred and beautiful blessing. And my child is not a celebrity, it’s just me and my husband.) 

Moving forward 

Marian, aware of the difficulties of pregnancy, said that she will maintain her current work schedule as long as she won’t have a hard time.

“Ay, hindi naman. In fairness sa GMA, tuloy pa rin ‘yung soap opera ko. Hindi ko lang kaya mag-Eat Bulaga kasi hindi ko na kakayanin. So ‘yung The Rich Man’s Daughter, tuloy pa rin ako niyan.”

As long as hindi naman ako nahihirapan, at kung hindi naman ako masyadong puyat at mabigat yung mga eksena ko, sa advice ng OB, okay naman.” 

(Oh, no. In fairness to GMA, my soap opera will still continue. I just might not continue my stint on Eat Bulaga because I might not be able to do so anymore. But [my soap] The Rich Man’s Daughter, it will still continue. 

As long as I won’t have a hard time, and I won’t lose a lot of sleep or if my scenes won’t be as heavy, it should be okay, according to my OB-GYN).
