Cobie Smulders reveals ovarian cancer diagnosis at 25
The 'How I Met Your Mother' alum has since taken multiple surgeries to remove the cancer tissue, but feels she will never be 'cancer-free'

MANILA, Philippines –  Actress Cobie Smulders, who endeared herself to fans playing the gun-toting, cigar-smoking, news anchor Robin Scherbatsky on How I Met Your Mother, and fierce former S.H.I.E.L.D. officer Maria Hill in The Avengers, is opening up about a personal battle of her own: being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

In an interview with Women’s Health magazine, she said, “I had tumors on both ovaries, and the cancer had spread into my lymph nodes and surrounding tissues.” She said she was diagnosed during the 3rd season of the now defunct sitcom.

She also said that it took multiple surgeries over the course of two years to remove the malignant tissue.

Five years after that diagnosis, she said, “I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’m cancer-free. Now that I’m five years out, I’m trying to think of it as a positive thing and what can I learn from it. And if I can create more awareness, I’ll do it.”

Currently, Cobie is enjoying the success of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and is set to appear in upcoming comedy film Results and drama Unexpected, which are both due out in 2015 in the United States.

She also recently welcomed her second child with husband and SNL cast member Taran Killam. – Rappler.com
