Boyzone on Filipino fans, One Direction and Manny Pacquiao
Ronan Keating says the boys are amazed by the Filipino fans' support

MANILA, Philippines – Irish boyband Boyzone said that they are happy to be back in the Philippines since their last visit in 1997.

In an interview on Aquino & Abunda Tonight Monday, May 25, Ronan Keating said the group is overwhelmed by the love of the fans who met them at the airport. (READ: Boyzone arrives in Manila for 2015 concert)

“[It’s] incredible. The moment you land, the fans are there at the airport. It’s incredible, the energy… You don’t get that anywhere in the world! It’s incredible. It makes you feel good about yourself,” he said.

In an interview on Bandila, Ronan talked about working with Marlisa Punzalan, whom he mentored in last year’s X-Factor Australia. Marlisa emerged as the winner of that season

“She’s a great girl (Marlisa). Fifteen years of age, what a talent. When I was in Australia in the X-Factor, so many people auditioned from the Philippines. Their voices are so incredible. But people who could mimic Mariah Carey and all the big voices, you see that all the time here,” Ronan said

On Aquino & Abunda Tonight, Mikey talked about paying tribute to bandmate Stephen Gately, who died in 2009 in Majorca. Mikey said that in every tour they do, they make sure Stephen is still remembered by the fans.

“With any of the tours we’ve done since Stephen passed away, we always make sure that we always have a point within the show where we pay tribute to him because obviously he was like a brother to us. We never want to forget his memory or the fans for that matter. We always wanted to make sure that everyone is reminded of him,” Mikey said.

The boys also praised British boyband One Direction.

“[They’re ] fantastic. I think a band in its popular culture mainly a pop act still come out and take all over the world really like what we did in the ’90s and when we thought pop was just a bubble at that time, it’s clearly not. Young girls, young boys out there love to hang on to a little bit of innocence and boy bands allow that to happen and what I think One Direction has done is phenomenal, they are an awesome group,” Shane Lynch said.

The boys also said that they are fans of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and invited him to come and watch their concert on Tuesday, May 26 at the Araneta Coliseum.

“We’re huge fans of Manny Pacquiao as well. So if he’s in town. Please tell he’s welcome to come down to the show tomorrow night, come on stage with us and sing a song with us. We know he likes to sing,” Keith Duffy said. – Rappler.com
