MANILA, Philippines – Everything is going well for teen singer Darren Espanto. After emerging as runner-up in The Voice Kids Philippines to winner Lyca Gairanod, performing in concerts abroad, plus endorsements and an album, Darren is now preparing for his major concert Darren Espanto D Birthday Concert at the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday, May 29. 

In an interview with reporters at the press conference for the event Tuesday, May 26, Darren said he was overwhelmed by the support of his fans, the Darrenatics.

“Opo kasi MOA Arena eto pero excited naman ako,” Darren said when asked if he was nervous. (yes because it’s MOA ARENA but the same time I’m very excited.)

Darren clarified the issue between him and veteran composer Vehnee Saturno. It was reported that Vehnee was not happy that his name was not mentioned in the list of people Darren thanked during his birthday celebration in ASAP 20 last Sunday, May 24. According to ABS-CBN, Vehnee served as composer and producer for a number of songs on Darren’s album. 

“Of course we prepared a long list of people to thank but it’s very unfortunate that we were pressed for time. MCA has spoken with him (Vehnee) po and is [already] taken care of po,” Darren said.

Raring to perform 

This time around, expect even more guest stars at Darren’s concert. His guests will include Bimby Yap, TV host Robi Domingo, Asia’s Got Talent champion El Gamma Penumbra, Alisah Bonaobra, The Voice of the Philippines Season 1 winner Mitoy Yonting, Season 2 winner Jason Dy, and a lot more.

Darren said that he will perform many songs including his favorites, and from his album, plus new dances.  He even performed his new song “Stuck” during the press conference.

If given a chance to act on television, Darren said he is open to working with anyone and would like to work alongside Jericho Rosales, Coco Martin and the tandem of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. He also talked about singer Jed Madela. 

“Si Kuya Jed is like a brother to me, of course a coach, a teacher,” he said. “Sinabi niya po na huwag ka magbabago(Never change) and always keep your feet on the ground.”

And for those who will audition in the upcoming The Voice Kids Season 2, here’s what Darren has to say: “Sa lahat ng sasali sa The Voice Kids Season 2, (to those who will join The Voice Kids Season 2), just be yourself and stay humble kasi humility is the key to success.” – Rappler.com
