Isabelle Daza criticized for Siquijor hashtag

MANILA, Philippines – Actress Isabelle Daza got some strong reactions from social media users for using the hashtag #SiquiWhores on social media during a trip to Siquijor with her cousin Martine Cajucom. (READ: Isabelle Daza apologizes over Siquijor hashtag)

On Instagram, Isabelle wrote “We’re here to insta! Lol #siquiwhores #dumagetiton.” The hashtag is a play on Siquijor and whore, a derogatory word for prostitute.

Singer and Siquijor Vice Governor Dingdong Avanzado posted on his Instagram account a statement over the issue, saying he wants a clarification from Isabelle. 

OFFICIAL STATEMENT It has come to my attention that the Instagram account @isabelledaza, which appears to be owned by actress Isabelle Diaz Daza, has posted a travel photo with the hashtag #siquiWhores. Before jumping into conclusions, I would like to hear directly from Ms. Daza whether the offensive term #siquiWhores is a description of herself and her companion or a judgment to my beloved people of Siquijor. As the vice-governor of the province, I am worried on how such a foul and offensive word would damage the reputation of the Siquijodnons in the long-run. I believe every citizen of Siquijor deserves a clarification from Ms. Daza on the matter.#siquijor

Some felt the hashtag was very insensitive and criticized the actress for it.

Follower nezel_yurong wrote: ” Lesson for Isabelle: be a responsible netizen. Hindi ibig sabihin we’re free to express our thoughts eh we will use words with bad connotations na. Kita mo dami na nag- aaway dito.”

From guiaapril2002: “@isabelledaza well good to know you’re a ‘whore’ but don’t use a lovely place to make a statement.”

A few celebrity friends left short comments on the post.

 

 

But others were quick to defend the post:

From nikkithemonster: “They’re just referring to themselves, not ur place..chillax..”

From paultiu47 “Can’t you guys just chill? it’s just a joke, ang oa ng reaction niyo.”

Follower dehsing meanwhile commented: “I think they are referring to themselves as WHORES and not the Locals in Siquijor. 🙂 Thanks for visiting my favorite place in the world. -Proud Siquijodnon here.”

Isabelle has yet to respond to the issue. – Rappler.com
