MANILA, Philippines – A glowing Judy Ann Santos talked to reporters about her new cookbook and shared a few tidbits about her pregnancy.
In an interview with reporters at the launch of her cookbook Judy Ann’s Kitchen, Friday, June 19, the actress, who confirmed that she was on her tenth week of pregnancy, said that her body is getting used to carrying a baby again since it has been close to 5 years since she gave birth to her son.
“Everything is okay. Siguro four and a half years ago ako nagbuntis, so parang naninibago ulit yung katawan ko. Sabi nga nila, each pregnancy is totally different,” she said.
(I guess 4 and half years ago that I was pregnant so my body is getting used to it.)
Judy Ann also shared that her kids are very excited about the happy news, especially son Lucho.
“For some reason nag mature siya…May extra happiness sa kilos niya. May astig na galaw siya na ‘kuya na ako,’ ” Judy Ann laughed.
(He’s gotten more mature…There is extra happiness in the way he moves. There’s a kind of swagger, like ‘I’m a big brother now.’)
Judy Ann also said that when Lucho found out about the baby, he was very amazed. Since then, he would greet the baby and even kiss her tummy.
“Ngayon, every single day maggu-good morning siya [Lucho] sa baby, maggu-good morning siya sa tiyan ko. Pagdating sa school, hihimasin niya yung tiyan ko. Pagsundo ko sa kanya, hahawakan niya yung tiyan ko.
“Silang magkapatid, ganun palagi sila,” she said.
(Every single day he would greet the baby good morning, he would greet my tummy. When he comes home from school he would touch my stomach. When I pick him up, he would touch my stomach. Both of them do that.)
According to Judy Ann she took a pregnancy test after a friend of hers from Japan dreamed she as pregnant. She found out sometime end of May, but made sure that the baby had a heartbeat before making the announcement.
Although she is excited about the baby, Judy Ann admitted a few bumps along the way, especially when it came to cooking.
“I had a hard time cooking for the first few weeks na hindi pa namin alam na buntis ako. (that we did not know I was pregnant.)
“For some reason, parang lasang bakal lahat ng niluluto ko. Hindi ako makapagtimpla. Tapos ‘pag kinakain ni Ryan (Agoncillo, her husband), ‘Bakit ganun, parang lasang bakal?’” (For some reason, everything I cooked had a metallic taste. I could not get the taste right. Then if Ryan tastes it – ‘Why is there a metallic taste?’)
As for her cravings, Judy Ann said she is not particular with anything, although if she wants to eat something, it should be crispy.
‘Judy Ann’s Kitchen’
Meantime while they are waitng for the new baby to come, Judy Ann is excited about promoting her new cookbook, Judy Ann’s Kitchen.
The book contains recipes that she grew up with, as well as some of her favorites to cook for Ryan. There’s also a chapter on table setting, as well as ingredients that one can use as alternatives and healthy food eveyone can try.
“Lahat ng mga recipes na makikita nila sa Judy Ann’s Kitchen are recipes na ginagawa ko sa bahay. But of course hindi ko naman i-claim lahat na original recipes like ‘Sinigang sa Munggo.’ It’s just my take on that particular ulam (dish).
(All of the recipes in that they will see in Judy Ann’s Kitchen are recipes that I use at home. But of course I will not claim all of them as originals, like ‘Sinigang sa Munggo.’)
“But there are some na ako talaga like yung mga baon ni Ryan, midnight snacks namin. Yung iba naman na ginagawa nakita ko sa mga cookbook na ginaya ko pero since wala dito yung ingredients, I did some options. Very helpful yung cookbook kasi kung walang ganito, you can use this,” she said.
(But there are some that I really made, like Ryan’s meals, midnight snacks we have. The others are based on the cookbooks I have, but since some of the ingredients aren’t available here, I added some other options.)
With Father’s Day coming up, Judy Ann said that she and her family will just spend it at home, having a barbecue and going swimming. As for her husband, she is grateful that he is there to support her.
“Overall package as a husband, as a son, as a father, he tries to weigh everything and balance everything… Give and take naman kami at the same time palagi (always). The kids love him so much… they really look up to him as their Iron Man,” Judy Ann said. – Rappler.com
