Vilma Santos, Cherie Gil nominated for awards at Madrid film fest
MANILA, Philippines – Actresses Vilma Santos and Cherie Gil are nominated in the Best Actress categories of the Madrid International Film Festival happening from July 2-11.
According to the film festival’s website, Cherie and Vilma are nominated in the Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film category. Cherie is nominated for her work in Mana (The Inheritance), while Vilma for Ekstra (The Bit Player). Another actress, Sheena McBride, is nominated for Gemini.
Cherie is also nominated in the Best Lead Actress category. Meanwhile, Sunshine Dizon was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress in a Foreign Film category for her role in the movie Kamkam (Greed). Sunshine thanked everyone on Instagram for the support.

Other Filipinos nominated are Mon Confiado for Best Lead Actor in a Foreign Language Film (Gemini) and Lance Raymundo for Best Supporting Actor in a Foreign Language Film (Gemini).
Directors Joel Lamangan, Jeffrey Jeturian (Ekstra) and Ato Bautista (Gemini) are also nominated for Best Director of a Foreign Language Film. The movies Ekstra and Kamkam are nominated for Best Foreign Feature Film.
A documentary entitled The Undertaker by Andrea Capranicois nominated for Best Foreign Language Documentary while producer Bianca Balbuena earned a nomination for Best Producer of a Foreign Language Film.
Ferdinand Lapuz, the producer of Kamkam and Ekstra earned a double nomination for Best Producer of a Foreign Language Film. – Rappler.com
