“Okay naman. Hinahatid ko siya (Zion) every morning at 7:30 almost everyday. Maaga na kami natutulog,” he said of his new lifestyle since becoming a father.
(It's good. We bring him [Zion] every morning [to school] at 7:30 almost everyday. We sleep early.)
Richard said that Zion calls him Dada which he describes as a wonderful feeling.
“Ang sarap kasi very distinct yung voice ni Zion, ‘pag narinig ko sa kanya [na tinawag akong Dada] nae-excite ako. Minsan pumapasok yun, maaga siyang nagigising. So, ginigising niya kami. Sasabihin niya, ‘Dada!’ Yung isang salita niya lang na yun, kahit na antok na antok ako, gising na ako. So talagang he brings me so much joy."
(It feels good because Zion's voice is very distinct. When I hear him [calling me Dada], I get excited. Sometimes he enters the room because he wakes up early and he would wake us up and say 'Dada!' With that one word of his, even if I'm very sleepy, I would wake up – he really brings me much joy.)
Richard also said that he is very happy for girlfriend Sarah Lahbati, who recently signed up with Viva Artists Agency as one of their newest talents. Sarah has been with GMA 7 since winning Starstruck.
“I’m very happy for her. Alam ko yung Viva management will really take care of her. Magaling sila mag-alaga ng talents, every little project [natututukan]. (They are good in handling talents, every little project, they really focus on it.)
“And they’re multi-media also. They have movies [Viva Films], they have connections in TV and they have music [Viva Music]," Richard said.
Richard shared that Sarah is looking forward to working again.
“It’s good for Sarah. She’s very excited and parang bumalik yung fire niya, yung drive niya, so I’m very happy for her.”
As for marriage plans, Richard said that he and Sarah are taking their time with their relationship. Richard's brother Elvis recently married his longtime girlfriend Alexa Uichico.
"Malalaman niyo na lang (You will just know). It’s too early now to spill the beans," Richard said.
“But we’re taking down notes and we’re planning it. Malalaman niyo soon.”
Richard was also asked if Sarah still gets jealous when it comes to other women.
“Wala naman siyang dapat pagselosan, e. Behave ako," Richard smiled. (She has nothing to be jealous about. I behave. )
“Masaya ako ngayon. Wala akong ibang hinahanap pa. (I am very happy. I'm not looking for anything else.)
“I’m very content where I am right now. I think that’s very important,” he added.
After taking a break from television, Richard is back this time hosting KISPINOY (K-Pop Icon Search Philippines), a reality search for the next talented Filipino to be the next K-Pop sensation.
In the show, Filipino contestants will undergo training from local and international K-Pop mentors in singing, dancing and stage performance.
For Richard, hosting KISPINOY is a new endeavor.
"I’ve done alot of hosting but this is the first time I’ve done something like this. I’ve hosted adventure shows, I’ve hosted Survivor, reality shows, but it’s the first itme I’m hosting a talent show na may reality din. It’s actually exciting for me, something new," he said.
"It’s also one of the reasons why I want to do KISPINPOY because it’s a different talent reality show tapos Korean-based pa."
The show, which aired its pilot last July 11, has two Filipino judges – Rico Blanco and Gelli de Belen – representing the Philippines, while a Korean star will sit as a guest judge during the competition.
Richard said that he was initially surprised with Gelli's inclusion in the show but later discovered her knowledge about K-Pop.
"Sabi ko, ‘Bakit si Ms. Gelli nandito? Alam ko actress siya, host, comedian. Bakit siya judge ng KISPINOY?’
(I said, 'Why is Ms. Gelli here? I know her as an actress, host, comedian. Why is she a judge in KISPINOY?)
“Malaman-laman ko lang siya pala ang K-pop expert. (I soon found out that she is the K-Pop expert.) She’s been watching K-pop since 2008.
“Kilala niya lahat ng stars, she knows kung anong training ginagawa ng Koreans.
(She knows all the stars, she knows the training the Koreans do.)
“Magandang addition si Ms. Gelli. Nagulat lang talaga ako sa knowledge niya about K-pop. Lahat ng tanong ko nasasagot niya. Ang galing!” Richard said.
(Ms. Gelli is a great addition. I was surprised with her knowledge on K-Pop. She could answer everything I asked. She's good.)
Joining Richard on the show is Jinri Park, whom Richard said has been helpful in teaching him about Korean culture.
With his return to television, is Richard open to the possibility of doing a teleserye again?
"For me, number one na priority is the content and yung role na gagampanan ko (the role I will play).
"Marami pa akong gustong gawin na roles. (I still have so many roles I want to try). Depende rin sa director ko, sa writer.
“It has to be a project that will really excite me."
“Kasi, parang nandun ako sa (Because I am at the) point ng life ko na if it doesn’t make me better, if it doesn’t make me happy, and if it doesn’t make me money, I won’t spend time on it,” he said.
Aside from KISPINOY, Richard is also part of his family's reality show It Takes Gutz To Be A Gutierrez which will air its 3rd season end of July. – Rappler.com
