MANILA, Philippines – Nino Alejandro, cousin of singer Rachel Alejandro, has joined The Voice of the Philippines.
During the telecast of the ongoing blind auditions on Saturday, November 15, Nino performed the song “Highway to Hell.”
Hearing the first notes of the song, Lea Salonga was the first to turn her chair, and was very surprised when she saw him. The other coaches – Sarah Geronimo, Apl de Ap and Bamboo, turned their chairs soon after.
“Dude, it has been way too long,” Lea said as she approached Nino and hugged him.
“That is the best I've ever heard you sing,” she added.
After Nino introduced himself, each of the coaches presented why Nino should pick his or her team.
“It would be great to have you here. I could probably learn some stuff from you,” Bamboo said.
Apl de ap promised to take him on the “highway to victory to win the competition,” while Sarah promised to introduce him to a new generation with his music.
In the end, Nino picked Lea to be his coach, saying that he believed she would open his mind and his musicality to take it to the level he envisioned.
Rachel, who was with Nino’s wife Michelle, became emotional as she saw all 4 coaches turn for her cousin.
“Buong-buo sa kanya yung love (He loves music so fully) for music and I just want to see it happen for him,” Rachel said prior to his performance.
Nino, together with Rachel, his cousins Ali and Eddie and uncle Hajji, performed in the concert In the Blood on Satuday, November 15 at the Music Museum. Another performance is scheduled on November 29. –Rappler.com
