Pia also shares how she felt about the mix-up on coronation night and what she's been doing since she was crowned

MANILA, Philippines – Weeks after she was crowned Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach got to do her Miss Universe walk on Monday, January 4.

The walk wasn’t quite what you’d expect. She did it after an interview on the morning show Live with Kelly and Michael, with the show’s live audience cheering her on in the background. It was only seconds long, too.

Pia struck a pose and did a fierce walk around the stage after the show’s co-host Michael Strahan announced: “Everybody, please welcome Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach from the Philippines!”

Pia did the walk after a short interview on the show, where she shared how she felt about her controversial triumph and what she’s been doing since.

During the pageant’s coronation night on December 20, host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez won the crown. He would later apologize and correct himself. Pia did not get her final walk that night because of the mix-up.

When Ariadna was initially crowned, Pia said she thought that being first runner-up wasn’t too bad. “I was just thinking to myself, ‘Okay, I made it this far, I’m pretty sure I made my country proud, and that’s good enough for me.’ I know I did everything I could, I know I did very well.”

She was surprised when she was called the actual winner, and said it didn’t sink in until after she had a good cry backstage.

“‘Did I really win? Is this final? Are you gonna come back and take the crown from me?’ But then they reassured me that ‘Yes, you are the winner, you are Miss Universe,'” she recalled asking her manager.

Pia has since spent Christmas and New Year’s Day in New York.
