Pia also addresses rumors that Miss Universe 2016 will be held in Manila

MANILA, Philippines – As she prepares to pass on her Miss Universe Philippines crown on Sunday, April 17 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach said that there are many candidates from this year’s Binibining Pilipinas that have caught her eye, especially during the press presentation last March 29. “Well, definitely there were a few who caught my eye and because they looked like they were having fun. Gusto ko yung ganun na ‘pag nakita ko yung girl, parang gusto ko siyang maging kaibigan (I want that kind of girl, who even at first sight, I want to be friends with),” Pia told reporters during a round table interview on Thursday, April 14 at Novotel, Cubao.

She said, “I think now that I’m the one sitting there as a judge, now I know what it feels like for the judges siguro nung (during) Miss Universe.”

In the spirit of fun, Pia joked, “I noticed na ang dami ko nang kamukha. At ang dami nang gumagawa nung lingon ko ah. (And I noticed there are so many who look like me now. And lots of people are doing the way I look back now.)

[There’s] nothing wrong with that. I mean, it’s very good, but it was interesting to see when I used to do it in my living room, and now everyone is doing it on stage. It’s so funny,” Pia shared. (WATCH: ‘Star-struck’ Pia Wurtzbach meets Manny Pacquiao)

At the press conference proper, Pia shared that the one important tip that she could share with the incoming batch and her successor is that they have to prepare right after winning the crown.

She said that the worthy successor “has to be prepared in a lot of aspects.”

“She has to have genuine interest in what’s going on in the country and the world.  Because as you’ve seen in the last Miss Universe pageant, they asked questions now about your country. So you have to be aware of what’s going on in the news,” she explained.

Pia said that the incoming queen should be firm in her stand on issues and be brave.

She added, “It has to be something that she really wants. It’s not just one big thing. Are you prepared to go to that room and wear that sash that says ‘Philippines’ and [that] crown?”

Miss U in Manila?

At the round table interview, Pia also clarified reports saying that the Miss Universe pageant would be held in Manila this year.

I am actively campaigning and we all want the pageant to happen here. We want to happen. It hasn’t been confirmed yet,” Pia said.

“I don’t even know on how far alone are we making it happen. The possibilities are there, but is it a done deal? I don’t know.”

Pia is set to crown her successor on Sunday along with fellow Bb Pilipinas title-holders – Janicel Lubina, Rogelie Catacutan, Christi Lynn McGarry, and Ann Colis. – Rappler.com
