“Well, to be honest, I was [surprised],” Maxine said. “And all of a sudden, ‘oh my god.’ I can’t wait, I’m so excited.”
The reigning Miss Universe Philippines admitted to having mixed emotions, saying that upon hearing the news, she texted her good friend, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International Nicole Cordoves.
“Yes, I was nervous, and I feel so excited. I’m happy. It was mixed emotions. So I was texting her, ‘Babe…’ Iyon lang. (That’s all)“
Maxine said that she has been working hard and improving on her communication skills.
“Maybe at this point, I am now at 80% [on my communciations skils] because I’m aiming for 101%” she said.
During her question and answer in last April’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant, Maxine received criticism for her response, where she stammered at one point. (WATCH: Miss Universe PH 2016 Maxine Medina’s winning response in Bb Pilipinas Q&A)
She also said that she has been undergoing a lot of training in etiquette, going to the gym, and more.
When asked if she had to adjust her training because the pageant would be held in the country, she said: “Well whether it’s not here in Manila, or another country, it’s the same. I still have to give my best. And I still have to learn a lot of things about pageants.
“So now I’m still in the process and I can’t wait to see the outcome,” she said.
As to what she’s looking forward to, Maxine said that she would want to show the other candidates around the country.
“I can’t wait because I have knowledge about beaches. And I really love beaches.
“So I can’t wait to tour them around like Cebu, Davao, those places that they won’t know unless I will show them. And I can’t wait to tour them.” – Rappler.com
