MANILA, Philippines – The story of Twitter and Instagram is heading in new directions, it seems. Twitter has announced the arrival of basic photo editing capabilities and filters to the official Twitter Android and iOS apps.

Twitter’s announcement post mentions that app users will now be able to auto-enhance, crop, and add one of eight different filters to your chosen photograph. 

According to The Next Web, Twitter’s photo filters are powered by the Aviary photo editing software development kit (SDK), which are also used on Flickr, Yahoo, Box, Squarespace, and Walgreens.

Twitter’s development of the new functionality appears to have been made a priority after Instagram’s movement to disable photo rendering last week. This ended with Instagram completely killing Twitter Cards support, which led to enterprising coders making workarounds on the Chome browser and the possible ramping up of the photo filter development process. – Rappler.com
