MANILA, Philippines – In line with the Miss Philippines Earth 2013 pageant’s water conservation theme, this 21-year-old product developer and registered nurse says, “Everyone utilizing water is a stakeholder, which means each one of us is a stakeholder. Imagine how much you can do by simply letting the green in you guide you through! Make your every day Earth Day and notice the difference you can make, not just today, but in days ahead.”

Describe your childhood/growing-up years (8-13 years old):

I was 8 when my mom, my siblings, and I transferred to Cebu because my parents were having marital problems. I would say it was the hardest part of my life. I was used to living in luxury since I was born. We had the biggest house in our community, with a number of helpers around the house and drivers to bring and pick us up from school. I pretty much had everything I needed and got all that I wanted. Moving to Cebu was the opposite of that life we had back then.

Most memorable moment:

It might sound like a cliché but it was when my friends and I were island-hopping. The boat driver was smoking and he threw his cigarette butt into the sea.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?

“Kalasangan ngadto sa kagasangan para sa kinaiyahan” or, in English, the “Ridge to reef for Mother Earth” conservation approach because it provides us a holistic and integrated approach utilizing both CLUP (Comprehensive Land Use Plan) and IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management) where we, as regular citizens of this country are dutiful stakeholders of land and, most especially, water.
