MANILA, Philippines – Philippine-based smartphone manufacturer Cherry Mobile launched a new line of smartphones at a launch event in Manila, Wednesday, July 24.
The Cosmos line of smartphones is being marketed as Cherry Mobile’s high-end line of smartphones. Four new phones make up the series, the Comsos X, X2, S and Z, all of them sport quad core processors and 18 megapixel main cameras.
The Cosmos X and X2 are being touted as the first smartphones from a local manufacturer that have Super AMOLED screens. Both phones have plasticky back cases that can be snapped off. The Cosmos S differentiates itself from the group as the only non dual-SIM phone in the series. The back of the Cosmos S is non-removable and has a aluminum like feel. The sim card slot is accessible via a pop-out sim tray. The back of the the Cosmos Z is also made of plastic but has a brushed metal finish to it, reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
Each Cosmos phone ships with Android 4.2.1 Jellybean. The Cosmos X appears to have Cherry Mobile customization while the other phones appear to run a stock version of Android. Missing from the phones is LTE connectivity, the phones only support 3G and HSPA+ networks.
No word on pricing at the moment, but we’re told the phones could be available as early as mid-August 2013.
