MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Google+ users will be pleased to know that Google is rolling out custom web addresses for personal accounts.
Google+ profiles currently use a string of numbers to represent the part of an account’s uniform resource locator, or URL. Custom URLs will enable an account to use words or numbers to represent their name, company, or brand appropriately.
For example, accounts without the custom URLs currently look like something like this: https://plus.google.com/u/0/106379706467882570891/posts. The long string of numbers in the URL represents your unique identifier as a URL.
A company or personal Google+ account with a custom URL will eventually look like this instead: http://www.google.com/+Rappler.
The change will make it easier to for Google+ users to share their accounts or posts, which is likely to increase engagement among users.
Google+ users with user pictures that are older than 30 days and have more than 10 followers will be eligible to get a custom link, and availability will spread throughout the week.
Brands and businesses with a linked website or a verified account can also claim a custom URL as well. Just visit the Google Help Center for more information. – Rappler.com
