Google+ enables restricted communities for organizations

Google+ gets customizable restricted communities for organizations

PRIVATE TALK. Google+ lets organizations set up private, customizable communities.

MANILA, Philippines – Google announced a new feature for Google+ on November 5, giving organizations the ability to create more secure, restricted communities for specific needs.

According to Google’s blogpost, the new community feature lets a community administrator adjust the settings, allowing for everyone at an organization sharing a domain – or specific people invited into that private community – to join.

Restricted communities can also be created with openings for people outside of a given organization’s domain.

Google Drive sharing is enabled in these communities, so users can send videos, photos, and other files to community members.

The new feature allows companies to be able to better manage who has access to sensitive information, while allowing space for people, who aren’t part of the organization but integral to the work involved, to contribute to discussions.

For instance, beta testers for an app can be part of a restricted community created by the app’s developers. At the same time, the app developers can have a separate, more private community set up to allow for internal communications regarding events transpiring on the beta testing community.

More information on setting up these community types is available on Google’s Help Center. – Rappler.com
