Miss Venezuela is Miss Earth 2013

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Miss Venezuela Alyz Henrich was crowned Miss Earth 2013 at the pageant held Saturday, December 7, at the Versailles Alabang in Las Piñas.

Miss Philippines Angelee delos Reyes came in the Top 8.

88 beauties from around the globe competed for the crown, a symbol of beauty and advocacy. Miss Venezuela joins the roster of beauty queens who double as ambassadors for environmental preservation.

In the question and answer portion, Henrich was asked how eco-tourism contributes to the protection of the environment. She highlighted how destruction is caused by people and that “we need to be aware and care for Mother Earth.”

The 22-year-old is an adovcate of clean water. In her Miss Earth profile, she shared how she helped in the recollection of trash in the Los Roques Island Chain, supporting the cause directed by a brilliant 12-year-old kid, who began to work to keep the waters in Venezuela clean.

She hails from a small town called Los Taques at the Peninsula de Paraguana the state of Falcon in Venezuela.

She moved to Maracaibo to study Social Communication and was eventually spotted by a modeling agency. She flew to Milan for her preparation for the Miss Earth pageant then came back to Venezuela.

The event was hosted by British actor/model Oli Pettigrew and American fashion model Linda Black. The beauty pagenat also featured a special performance by veteran singer David Pomeranz.

Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry is the only Filipino to have won the title since the first pageant in 2001.
