From wildcard to Miss Intercontinental 2021!

Cinderella Faye Obeñita is ready to start her reign after winning the Miss Intercontinental 2021 crown on Friday night, October 29 in Egypt (early Saturday, October 30, Manila time).

“We made it here, where it all began,” Obeñita wrote in an Instagram post, alongside photos of her wearing the Miss Intercontinental crown and sash.

She continued, “Now it begins: a new journey to circle the continents and bring our Filipino brand of beauty, [the] power of beauty that is felt in the kindness of our hearts and the sincerity of our loving actions.”

The 25-year-old senior tourism officer from Cagayan De Oro, Misamis Oriental bested 70 candidates in the international pageant. She’s only the second Filipina to take home the Miss Intercontinental crown.

In an Instagram story, Obeñita also penned a message to acknowledge her supporters. “We made it, Philippines! My heart is overflowing with gratitude for your unwavering support! Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat (Thank you so much to all of you),” she said.

Back in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant in July, Obeñita also had a huge amount of supporters. She earned the highest number of fan votes, which warranted her the wildcard 13th spot for the semifinals. She then continued to advance in every round, went viral for her answer in the question and answer portion, and was named as one of the six titleholders.

Fellow beauty queens such as Catriona Gray, Katarina Rodriguez, Aya Abesamis, and Maureen Wroblewitz have congratulated Obeñita.

The Binibining Pilipinas organization also released a statement to celebrate Obeñita’s achievement.

“From a Binibini who won the hearts of many Filipino fans, she impressed the whole world with her grace and charm throughout her pageant performance in Egypt. We can’t wait to welcome back our latest international pride here in the country,” they wrote.

The organization has yet to announce when Obeñita will return to the Philippines. – Rappler.com
