Miss Universe Philippines candidate Maria Isabela Galeria gets COVID-19

Maria Isabela Galeria, the candidate of Sorsogon for the Miss Universe Philippines pageant, said on Sunday, September 27, that she tested positive for the coronavirus.

On Instagram, Isabela wrote: "With so much sadness in my heart, I regret to inform you that I tested positive for COVID-19.... This news breaks my heart deeply and I apologize if ever I put you at risk."

She added that she became infected despite following safety precautions.

"I have spoken with those that I saw recently. My team, my MUP sisters, and those I had close contact with in Manila all tested negative," she also said.

Isabela asked other people she had close contact with to immediately have themselves checked.

"I am truly, deeply sorry. Kindly find it in your hearts to include me and my family in your prayers."

Her fellow Miss Universe Philippines candidates sent messages of encouragement in the comments section.

Isabela, 22, is one of the 51 candidates vying for the Miss Universe Philippines title. She also did modeling and was part of the Top 15 during the Binibining Pilipinas 2019 pageant.
