MANILA, Philippines – Aside from the beautiful Miss Universe Philippines 2022 candidates, Miss Universe 2015 and host Pia Wurtzbach stunned the crowd with her scene-stealing gowns during the coronation night held on Saturday, April 30.

On Instagram, Pia shared that her ensembles in the pageant finals were created by Filipino designers. This collaboration, she said, was meant to pay tribute to the iconic winning looks of the four Filipino Miss Universe queens – Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Catriona Gray, and Pia herself.

She first walked the stage in a white modern Filipiniana made by Mark Bumgarner. Dubbed “Manila Girl on the Moon,” the embellished white gown with high slit is a tribute to Gloria Diaz, the first ever Filipina beauty queen to win the Miss Universe crown.

“Today, this look is a message for every woman to be unafraid to reach for the moon and say yes to her dreams and new adventures,” Pia wrote.

Pia then changed to a yellow gown by Jaggy Glarino which features intricate corset details. The “In Full Bloom” creation drew inspiration from the flowers pinned on Margie Moran’s gown when she was crowned Miss Universe 1973.

“In a hue that’s brighter than the sun, we’re reinventing what pageant swimsuit shots could look like with this offbeat one piece number that unapologetically highlights a woman’s curves,” Pia said about the piece.

For her third look, Pia donned a cutout gown in her signature color of blue. The creation by Louis Pangilinan is an homage to the DIC crown that Pia won in 2015.

“We’re taking wearing the crown to the next level – not just on top of our heads, but as an embodiment of how every woman should be celebrated whatever size, shape, or age she is,” she said about the piece, which she dubbed “My Crowning Glory.”

Capping off her hosting stint, Pia sizzled in the “Girl on Fire” creation by Gladi Echavarre and Atsuko Kudo. The red high-slit cutout gown, completed with sultry red gloves, is an ode to Catriona Gray’s iconic lava gown during the Miss Universe 2018 competition.

“We want every woman to feel like she is a phoenix rising, who’s fierce, feminine, and fabulous in everything that she does,” she said about the ensemble.

Pia served as one of the hosts of the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 coronation night, alongside fellow titleholders Iris Mittenaere and Demi-Leigh Tebow.

Celeste Cortesi of Pasay was named the winner, succeeding Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez. – Rappler.com
