Samantha Bernardo is first runner-up in Miss Grand International 2020

Miss Grand Philippines Samantha Bernardo was first runner-up during the 2020 Miss Grand International pageant in Thailand on Saturday, March 27.

Abena Appiah of the United States of America was crowned the winner.

At the coronation night, Samantha initially tied with Abena and Guatemala's Ivana Batchelor, after walking in swimsuit and evening gown segments, giving a Top 10 speech, and participating in a Top 5 Q&A. To break the tie, the top 3 contestants had to answer a question on who they would prioritize for a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Filipina beauty queen candidate has been making waves online – Samantha landed in the top 10 during Miss Grand's National Costume competition on Friday, March 26. Her eagle-inspired national costume, designed by Patrick Isoren, was designed to raise awareness on the Philippine eagle.

She also stunned fans during the two preliminary competitions, which included Thursday's evening gown segment, where Samantha donned an emerald green gown by Louis Pangilinan, inspired by Palawan’s yellow-throated leafbird.

On Saturday, March 20, she showed off her #GRANDnadaWalk during the swimsuit competition.

Samantha, who was Binibining Pilipinas 2nd runner-up in 2018 and 2019, was appointed to represent the Philippines after titleholder Aya Abesamis was deemed unable to compete due to age restrictions. – Rappler.com
