‘Darna: the TV series’ to air in 2021

With the Darna movie indefinitely postponed, the TV series version will push through with Jane de Leon as the lead star.

ABS-CBN chief operating officer Cory Vidanes announced during the contract signing of Star Magic on Friday, December 4, that the project will happen in 2021.

Jane was among those who renewed their contract with Star Magic.

“May masaya po kaming ibabalita sa inyong lahat. Tuloy na tuloy na po ang paglipad ni Darna. At ang gaganap bilang Darna ay walang iba kung hindi si Ms Jane de Leon na patuloy nagpapakita ng sipag at determinasyon sa paghahanda sa muling paglipad ni Darna,” Vidanes said.

(We have good news to share. Darna will finally push through. And the person playing Darna is no less than Ms Jane de Leon, who continues to show perseverance and determination in preparing for Darna.)

“So ngayong 2021 na po, ‘Mars Ravelo’s Darna: the TV series’ starring none other than Ms. Jane de Leon,” she added. (So this 2021, Mars Ravelo’s Darna: the TV series starring none other than Ms. Jane de Leon.)

Jane, who was surprised by the announcement, thanked Vidanes and the ABS-CBN bosses for the opportunity.

“Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat, especially sa mga bosses. ‘Yung pakiramdam ko po ngayon parang nag-flashback po ‘yung time na in-announce po sa akin ‘yung Darna. And hindi ko po talaga ini-expect.”

(Thank you so much to everyone, especially the bosses. I feel as if I had a flashback to the time it was announced I was given Darna. And I really did not expect it.)

“I’m so overwhelmed – sobrang mixed emotions. Siyempre kinakabahan and I’m really really happy na makita ko po kayong lahat. I feel so blessed to be a Kapamilya,” she added.

Jane was chosen to play the iconic role in 2019 after a series of auditions and after Liza Soberano bowed out of the project due to a finger injury.

The project had several delays with Angel Locsin and Erik Matti originally attached to the project before Jerrold Tarog took over the film.

Tarog earlier teased that they started shooting in January before production was suspended. – Rappler.com
