Erik and Angeli won for their work on the 'Island of Dreams' episode of drama anthology 'Food Lore'

Erik Matti and Angeli Bayani were recently named winners at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA) held in Singapore on October 15.

Erik directed the episode “Island of Dreams,” the pilot episode of HBO drama anthology Food Lore, which Angeli starred in. The filmmaker brought home the Best Single Drama/Telemovie/Anthology Episode award, while Angeli won the title for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

“Island of Dreams” explores the life of Nieves, played by Angeli, an ambitious and hardworking woman, who left her husband and children to work as a domestic helper in Metro Manila to provide them with a better life.

Returning home for their annual fiesta, Nieves realizes that she may have grown estranged to her family due to unexpected changes in her life.

Erik also recently won the title of Best Director of a Scripted TV Program, while Food Lore bagged the Best Asian Drama in the Regional/International Market category at the ContentAsia Awards in August.

Other episodes of Food Lore that were recognized in the AAA awards were “He Serves Fish, She Eats Flower” for Best Cinematography (Vietnam), “Life in a Box” for Best Direction (Japan) and “Maria’s Secret Recipe” for Best Single Drama/Telemovie/Anthology Episode (Indonesia).

Food Lore is available for streaming on HBO GO. – Rappler.com
