Powerpuff, the live action adaptation of The Powerpuff Girls is headed to the big screen soon, and the CW has released a first-look photo of the superhero trio.

The photo, also shared by star Dove Cameron, shows Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as young women in their 20s, each of them wearing modern outfits in their signature colors.

Dove will be playing the trio’s “joy and laughter” Bubbles in the upcoming series. Chloe Bennett will be playing their leader Blossom, and Yana Perrault will be playing the rebellious Buttercup.

Also starring is Donald Faison, who plays the girls’ dad Professor Utonium, and Robyn Lively as the iconic mayor’s secretary Sara Bellum.

The Powerpuff Girls was created by Craig McCracken and ran on the Cartoon Network from 1998 to 2005. It told the story of little girl triplets who were created out of sugar, spice, and everything nice…and a mysterious ingredient, Chemical X, which gave them the superpowers they used to fight villains in their hometown.

Powerpuff, which was announced in August, will follow the trio as young adults “who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting.” The live-action adaptation was written by Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody.

A premiere date has yet to be announced. – Rappler.com
