Neil Gaiman announces a second season for Amazon Prime's fantasy comedy series, with angel-demon duo Aziraphale and Crowley set to return

Amazon Prime is ordering a second season for fantasy comedy series Good Omens, as confirmed by author Neil Gaiman via Twitter on Tuesday, June 29.

According to co-producer BBC, actors Michael Sheen and David Tenant, who played Aziraphale and Crowley respectively, are expected to return. Gaiman is also set to return as the executive producer as well as the co-showrunner along with Douglas Mackinnon, who will also return as its director. John Finnemore will also co-write the series with Gaiman.

According to Neil Gaiman, the co-author of the book the series is based on, Good Omens was supposed to be a limited series, as the entire novel had already been covered in the first season. Talks of a sequel between Amazon and BBC transpired because decades prior, co-authors Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, had already plotted the sequel to the novel but could never find the time to write it.

No clear direction for the second season has been confirmed yet, as there is no more source material to base the sequel off on. Gaiman, however, mentioned that the sequel will begin with an angel wandering around the streets of Soho with no memory as they stumble upon Aziraphale’s bookshop.

Good Omens is a limited series adaptation of a novel of the same name written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Prachett. The series follows Aziraphale and Crowley, an unlikely angel and demon duo, who try to prevent the end of the world.

The adaptation’s first season ran for six episodes and was well-received, earning a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form and three nominations at the Emmys. – with reports from Adrian Soriano/Rappler.com
