Hulu announced on April 21, Wednesday that a How I Met Your Mother sequel is in the works, with Hilary Duff cast as the lead. 

The sequel series, titled How I Met Your Father, follows the story of Sophie (played by Hilary) telling her son how she met his father. The retelling “catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options,” according to Variety. 

How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are Hilary’s co-executive producers for the 10-episode sequel series. 

Hilary also posted on her Instagram to share how happy she is for the project. “I’m really excited to dig in and find out who Sophie is going to be and the new onscreen family that I’m going to have, super exciting!” 

“Really looking forward to being part of the Hulu and the 20th century family. Working with the amazing writers and producers that are spearheading this project, I truly feel blessed and I can’t wait. So I hope you’re excited just like me,” she continued. 

The series’ airing date has yet to be announced.
