We're saying goodbye to our 'giraffe'

Lee Kwang-soo will no longer be a fixed cast member of Korean variety show Running Man, his agency King Kong by Starship announced on April 27, Tuesday.

The agency revealed, as translated by Soompi, that Kwang-soo has been “steadily undergoing rehabilitation treatment” from the injuries he received from an accident last year. However, he still suffered difficulties while filming hence they decided to let Kwang-soo “take some time to take care of his body and mind.”

SBS, the media company broadcasting Running Man, has also issued a statement that they have been discussing Kwang-soo’s resignation for a while now in consideration of his current health situation.

“We are unfortunately faced with a beautiful goodbye, but we ask the viewers to show warm support and encouragement to Lee Kwang-soo and the members who made a difficult decision,” SBS said.

Kwang-soo is an original cast member of Running Man since its inception in July 2010. Fondly called “giraffe,” he is known for his comedic ways in the variety show. After his scheduled last shoot in May 24, Running Man will continue with seven cast members: Yoo Jae-suk, Ji Suk-jin, Kim Jong-kook, Haha, Song Ji-hyo, Jeon So-min, and Yang Se-chan.

Running Man is one of the most popular variety shows in South Korea and has a growing fan base in the Philippines. The cast members were supposed to visit the Philippines last February 2020 to celebrate the show’s 10th year but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. – Rappler.com
