MANILA, Philippines – “Kapuso” Primetime Queen Marian Rivera will soon be seen in a film released through the “Kapamilya” film arm, Star Cinema, titled “Kung Fu Divas,” where she shares top billing with Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas.

But Marian was quick to explain that she did not sign a contract to do future films with Star Cinema. She said she signed as one of the producers of “Kung Fu Divas.”

“I still have an exclusive contract with Regal Entertainment. Yung pinirmahan kong contract [The contract I signed] is just for the release of ‘Kung Fu Divas’ under Star Cinema.

“Kami kasi ni Ai-Ai ang producers [Ai-Ai and I are the producers], together with Reality Entertainment, The O&Co. Picture Factory Inc., and kasama din ang [also part of this group is] Star Cinema.”

“Kung Fu Divas” will be released either in September or October, and GMA-7 had given Marian the go-ahead to promote her film at ABS-CBN’s programs.

The project was supposed to be one of the entries in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.

But the producers have decided to show it earlier and not wait for the Christmas season when it will compete with other local films at the box office.

A few months back, there was some controversy regarding Marian and the festival.

Marian’s exclusive contract with GMA will expire this month and she is open to negotiations with other TV networks.

“I’m looking forward na makatrabaho sa iba’t ibang kumpanya. Hindi ko isinasarado ang pintuan ko. Mas malawak, mas malaki, mas marami kang matututunan at mas marami kang makikita sa mundo, e, kaysa yung nakakahon ka. Masarap kasi nangyayari itong lahat sa akin.”

(I’m looking forward to work with other companies. I’m not closing the door. The broader, the bigger, the more you learn and the more you see in the world, rather than being boxed in. Because it’s wonderful that all this is happening to me.)

Last April, Marian dropped her manager of 8 years, Popoy Caritativo, to transfer to Triple A, an artist management office owned by Tony Tuviera of TAPE Inc.

The actress claims that it was Tuviera who really discovered her after seeing her in a TV commercial.

Just two weeks ago, Marian was seen having a meeting with some of the big bosses of TV5.

Her most recent TV series with GMA was “Temptation of Wife,” and her most recent film with GMA Films was “My Lady Boss.”

Marian has nothing but good words for Ai-Ai delas Alas.

“Napakasarap sa pakiramdam ko na nakatrabaho ko si Ate Ai. Kasama diyan yung sa likod at harap ng camera, nakasama ko na talaga siya.” (It’s wonderful that I’ve worked with Ate Ai. Behind and before the camera, we’d hang out together.)

“Ang sarap ng bonding namin, especially with Direk Onat [Diaz] na napakabait rin sa akin. Ang saya-saya ng pelikula, as in in-enjoy ko siya.” (We’ve had this bonding, especially with Direk Onat who’s very nice to me. I really had fun with this movie, as in, I enjoyed it.)

“Marami ibinigay sa akin na tips si Ate Ai at marami akong natutunan sa kanya.” (Ate Ai gave me a lot of tips and I learned a lot from her.) – Rappler.com
