MANILA, Philippines – Actor Raymart Santiago was allowed to see his children on Thursday, August 8, after the Marikina Regional Trial Court granted his petition the previous day for habeas corpus, ABS-CBN reports.

Raymart and his estranged wife, Claudine Barretto, have a son, Santino, and a legally adopted daughter, Sabina.

This was the second day Raymart and Claudine appeared in court at the same time.

The actor was visibly elated as he stepped out of the court that afternoon, after a two-hour closed door hearing on his custody case.

Claudine, on the other hand, seemed distraught as she strode out of the court premises to her car.

She declined to make any comment other than to thank her supporters.

Her lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, reminded the media that there was a gag order stemming from the Temporary Protection Order that the same court granted Claudine on August 7.

The order constrains Raymart from coming within 300 meters of his wife, their two children, their marital home, and the children’s school.

Raymart is also prohibited from communicating with Claudine, their children, and any member of their household.

It is not far-fetched that Claudine will soon petition for a Permanent Protection Order.

But the actor has been momentarily spared these restrictions in view of his counter-petition.

Before the hearing on the protection order, Raymart expressed his gratitude to his supporters.

“Gusto ko magpasalamat sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta sa akin, at sa mga taong naniniwala sa akin. Naniniwala ako na lalabas din ang totoo dito.”

(I wish to thank everyone who supports and believes me. I believe the truth will out.)
