MANILA, Philippines – Barely a month after the premiere of his afternoon teleserye, “Kakambal ni Eliana,” Kapuso young actor Enzo Pineda has started work with a new TV project, “Dormitoryo.”

Enzo, 23, plays the role of Burn Chavez, the school’s most popular varsity player with a dark secret.

“I can relate with my character since naging varsity player din ako [I was also a varsity player] in high school at La Salle Greenhills,” Enzo said.

“I was also in the varsity of taekwondo, track and field, and football. I was this active kid in school.

“But I was not the campus heartthrob. I might be the sports jock, but I was into my studies a lot.

“Hindi naman ako nerd. [I wasn’t really a nerd.] I just knew how to balance my school work and sports.”

A certain mystery

Enzo applied the same thoroughness in developing his character in “Dormitoryo.”

“I want to give Burn my own interpretation. He has this dark secret, so I had to create a character who [had a certain mystery]. I want to get into that character so that televiewers will get to see a different actor in me.”

Enzo takes every opportunity to develop his acting with any given role, such as his wheelchair-confined character in a recent episode of “Magpakailanman.”

“I want to get roles that I will be able to sink my teeth in,” he said.

“I’ve been in this business for the past 4 years now and I guess it’s time for me to get good and challenging roles.

“I don’t want to do the same roles over and over again. Habang tumatanda ka, gumaganda ang mga ginagawa mo [As you grow older, your work gets better], and people will get to appreciate the hard work you put in every performance.”

Touching viewers

This perspective is commendable in that it affirms the many great performances that have become part of Philippine cinema’s heritage.

For Enzo, It’s also important that he gets the parts that can touch people’s hearts.

“I feel so happy when GMA gives me projects that make a lot of people feel good about themselves.

“I’m happy that they’re seeing something in me, na na-appreciate nila ang trabaho ko [that they appreciate my work].

“For me as an artist, masarap sa pakiramdam that I get to touch [people’s] hearts kapag nanonood sila, nakaka-inspire ako ng mga tao.”
