Mark Herras picks up the pieces

 

MANILA, Philippines – Mark Herras looks ahead. “Starstruck’s” first “Ultimate Male Survivor” and “Ultimate Bad Boy of the Dance Floor” is focused anew on his career, working extra hard and moving on after his breakup with actress Ynna Asistio, his girlfriend of more than 5 years.

Mark had appeared recently with renowned actor Rez Cortez in GMA’s drama anthology “Magpakailanman.”

He also portrayed police aide June Abrozado, the lone survivor in the plane crash that claimed the life of Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo in August 18, 2012. This was for the premiere episode of the new show “Bingit.”

“Mas mahal ko na ang acting ngayon [I love acting, I realize that now],” he told a contributor for Rappler. “I want to get as many acting assignments as I can.

“The last teleserye I did was ‘Unforgettable.’ I am hoping GMA will give me more challenging roles just like what I did for ‘Magpakailanman’ and ‘Bingit.'”

Ynna

Mark admitted that he went through a tough time.

“Siyempre, hindi madaling tanggapin ang lahat. Limang taon din kami ni Ynna.”

(Of course, it wasn’t easy to accept everything. That was 5 years with Ynna.)

“Nakilala ko siya [I got to know her] when she was just 16 years old.

“Naging good friends kami pati na ang families namin.”

(We became good friends and also our families.)

“When she turned 18, ako ang naging escort niya and doon ko na siya officially niligawan [I became her escort and that’s when I started courting her].

“Kaya masakit para sa akin kasi nakasanayan ko nang kasama parati si Ynna at ang buong pamilya niya.”

(That’s why it’s painful for me because I enjoyed being always in her company and that of her family.)

“Very memorable lahat ng trips naming dalawa. [Our trips were very memorable.] Kaya understandable na na-depress ako for a time noong magkahiwalay kami. [It’s understandable that I became quite depressed when we broke up.]”

Family

Mark realized he couldn’t wallow in self-pity because he had a family to take care of.

“Naisip ko ang pamilya ko. Nandiyan naman sila para sa akin. [I thought about my family. They were always there for me.] They have always been supportive sa akin kahit na sino ang nakarelasyon ko.” (They have always been supportive to me, no matter who I’m in a relationship with.)

“Doon ko naramdaman ang importansya ng pamilya ko. I admit na medyo na-neglect ko sila noong kami pa ni Ynna.”

(That’s when I realized how important my family is. I admit that I somewhat neglected them when Ynna and I were still together.)

“Now, mas gusto kong kasama na sila ngayon. [Now, I want to be with them always.] I want to make up for the time [that I didn’t give them] na hindi ko nabigay sa pamilya ko.”

Career

Mark has promised himself to work harder.

“Lahat ng acting jobs tinatanggap ko na. Before, marami akong ayaw gawin.”

(I’m taking all offers. There was a time when there were so many things I didn’t want to do.)

“Ngayon hindi na puwede ang tumatanggi. [Now, you can’t turn away opportunities.] Gusto kong maging productive. Ayokong mabakante. [I want to be productive. I don’t want to be idle.]

“Ito ang new Mark Herras na mapapanood na nila,” he smiled. (This is the new Mark Herras they’ll watch.)
