Edu Manzano back to talk-show hosting
MANILA, Philippines - Edu Manzano still has it, and he must be surprising his skeptics with the feedback he's getting for his show on TV5, "What’s Up, Doods?"
The “undisputed King of Late Night Talk Shows” during the ‘80s and ‘90s, as he was widely promoted then, is back in familiar territory.
He's not just sitting down, chatting with his guests - but also out in the streets from time to time, to widen the reach of his banter and discussion.
“It’s basically a talk show similar to what I used to do with 'Not So Late Night with Edu,' but it has many other components and this will break the mold of traditional talk shows,” Doods said, describing his show.
This being cyber-era, Doods also takes part in the online interaction. He said he grants request from his Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
"In this modern age of social media, tama lang na makisabay na tayo [that we go with the times]," he said. "Mas mabilis ang palitan ng [It's faster, the exchange of] information, news and on-the-spot happenings.
"But if you expect me to record a sex video, it will never happen live!" he joked. Doods is aware, of course, that sex videos have become a facet of the currrent milieu.
Doods only wants the best for his show. “Everything will be live. As a host, you always want to put your best foot forward.
"We want to go live because unpredictability is a very important thing in a talk show.
"You have no control of what will happen so you have to learn how not to look too shocked if something happens that you don’t expect.
"Magpapaka [We're going for something like a] reality show tayo and we are happy for the wonderful feedback.
"The audience can expect more from our show, so keep those request coming para ma-challenge ako ng husto [so I can be challenged all the way]."
What’s remarkable about Doods, even if he's already good at his hosting job, is his willingness to learn from the younger ones.
"If you really want to grow as a host, you should listen to others," he said.
"That’s why I enjoy working with the likes of Billy Crawford, with my son Luis, because I also learn from them.
"In the same manner, I also learn from my guests." - Rappler.com
