Meet Lauren Young, actress (and Megan’s sis)

MANILA, Philippines – Lauren Young is one proud sibling – she is, after all, the younger sister of Miss World 2013.

Way before the pageant unfolded in Bali, Indonesia, the 19-year-old actress was, of course, already pitching in her support for Megan online.

“My sister is a beautiful person inside and out,” said Lauren. “She’s a very kind and selfless person and many people saw that.

“That’s why I was not surprised when many people were rooting for her to win. You can feel the love of so many people for my sister during that night.

“Ako pa nga ang naging [I was the one who became] emotional for her. I cried when she was crowned the winner.”

After the coronation, Lauren immediately posted a photo of her and Megan (wearing the Miss World crown) on her Instagram with this message:

“Tears of joy for my sister, Megan. I’m so happy for all of your achievements! I can’t wait to see what you will do to change and help out not only our country, but the world. Megan is truly an amazing person, with a huge heart, she’s not just my big sister but became a mom to me and Victor as well, sending us to school and making sure that we had a comfortable lifestyle, even though that meant that she had to be away from us working almost every day for 24 hours a day. Congratulations ate, you have a beautiful face and a beautiful heart that is worth sharing to the world.”

Staying in her field

There has been the usual speculation if she will follow in her sister’s footsteps. But Lauren said she would rather focus on her line of work.

“I just want to focus on acting. I want to do different roles that would challenge me and make me love my career more.

“Siguro nga, mas gusto kong may mapatunayan ako [I guess I would rather prove myself] in being an actress on both TV and film.

“Me and my sister, we like to do different things, but we are out there to support one another all the time.”

Lauren started her career as one of the Star Circle talents of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. Her first film was the Cathy Garcia-Molina film “One More Chance (2007),” starring Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz, her older brother in the film.

She went on to do indie films such as “Catnip” and “Zombadings 1: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington.” Her latest project in this milieu is Mike Alcazaren’s CineFilipino entry, “Puti.”

Lauren has signed a contract with GMA-7 and has done “Mundo Mo’y Akin” with Alden Richards and Louise delos Reyes.

She currently appears in the weekly teen suspense serye “Dormitoryo,” as beleaguered student Hazel, who conducts a personal investigation into her best friend’s murder.
