Sunshine Cruz keeps bright outlook

 

MANILA, Philippines – Sunshine Cruz’ launching of her latest endorsement, Ever Bilena Cosmetics, became, as expected, an opportunity to persuade the star into opening up on her transition. 

The showbiz press only had to ask simple, even deceptively silly questions like, does she still have any love for estranged husband Cesar Montano?

“Lumilipas din pala ang pagmamahal mo sa isang tao,” she said. “Kapag paulit-ulit na lang ang kasalanan sa iyo at paulit-ulit mo na lang tinatanggap iyon, teka, parang ang tanga ko na masyado. I guess nandoon na ang sagot.”

(It turns out you can outgrow your love for someone. If he keeps hurting you and you always take it in stride, hold on, it’s like I’m already being too stupid. I guess that’s the answer.)

The 36-year-old actress said she will seek an annulment soon. So that’s it.

“Wala na talaga [It’s over]. Nagsalita na ako na ayoko na [I already said I want out] and I want to move on.

“I’ve given him 13 years of my life. Nag-sakripisyo ako [I’ve made sacrifices], I gave up my career just to show him that I am a good wife and a good mother to our kids.

“Tama nga ang song ni Barbra Streisand. [Barbra Streisand was right about her song.] Some good things never last. I never thought na mangyayari ito sa amin [that it would happen to us] but it did. I’ve accepted it, my kids have accepted it, kaya tanggapin na ni Buboy [Cesar] ang situwasyon namin ngayon [so Buboy should accept our situation now].”

Buying a new house

Sunshine said she’s saving up to buy a new house. She no longer wishes to oblige Cesar on that.

“It was Buboy who offered na ibili ako ng bahay [to buy me a house]. He even showed me a photo of a house he wanted to buy for me and the kids. It was worth P25 million.

“I told Buboy na huwag ‘yan kasi it is too expensive at masyadong malaki [not that, because it’s too expensive and too big]. Gusto ko ay ‘yung simpleng bahay lang na madali lang i-maintain. [I just want a simple house that’s easy to maintain.] So he told me na ako na raw ang maghanap ng gusto kong bahay [to look for a house that I want].

“Ako naman, naghanap naman. Ilang days din akong nagtawag-tawag. [So I went looking for a house I could buy and I’ve made some calls.] Until I saw this house worth P10 million. Tama lang siya [It’s just right] for me and the kids, at maganda ang lugar with security pa [and it’s a nice place with security].

“Noong sinabi ko ‘yun kay Buboy, sabi niya na ayusin daw niya.” (When I told Buboy about this, he said he’d make arrangements.)

“Tapos nalaman ko na lang na gagamitin nila iyon against me. [Little did I realize this would be turned against me.] Na dini-demand ko raw sa kanya na ibili ‘yung bahay. [That I’d be made to appear that I would importune him into buying me that house.] Tama ba naman iyon [Is that right]?

“Kaya sabi ko sa susunod na mag-uusap kami, kailangan may lawyer akong kasama. Kasi ako pa ang lumalabas na mali, ‘di ba?” (So I told myself, next time we talk, I should have a lawyer with me. Because it’s being made to appear that I’m in the wrong, no?)

Allowance

As Sunshine recounts her last meeting so far with Cesar, the actor has agreed to a monthly allowance of P55,000 for Sunshine and to paying the tuition fees of their 3 daughters.

“Yung monthly allowance na ‘yon, it will cover the rent for the house na tinutuluyan namin ng mga bata [that my children and I are renting], plus suweldo sa driver ng mga bata [the driver’s salary].

“Kung tutuusin dapat mas malaki pa pero ayoko nang makipagtalo [Come to that, the allowance should be bigger but I don’t want to fuss over it]. Kaya nga super work ako ngayon kasi ayokong may masabi ang ibang tao na dumedepende ako kay Buboy.”(That’s why I’m working harder because I don’t want people saying that I’m depending on Buboy.)

“I am thankful that I have a new show at ABS-CBN which is ‘Galema, Anak ni Zuma’ and kinuha ako ulit na [that I’m once again an] endorser for Ever Bilena Cosmetics.”

The first time Sunshine was an endorser for Ever Bilena Cosmetics was in 1999, at the height of her showbiz career.

“I’m 36-years old now, with 3 kids,” she said. “But I still feel young. When I saw my old photographs from Ever Bilena, natuwa ako na wala namang masyadong naiba sa hitsura ko [I was happy that nothing much had changed with my looks]. I might have gotten older and, with age, a lot wiser now.

“At wala akong niretoke kahit anong part ng mukha at katawan ko [No cosmetic job on my face and body]. I thank God for blessing me with this body na hindi tumataba [that has not grown fat] and this face [without] na hindi kailangan i-Botox.

“I just don’t want to stress myself and I always have a positive outlook in life. Kahit may problema, smile lang tayo parati and feel beautiful.” (Even with our problems, we just keep smiling and we feel beautiful.)
