2014: The year in celebrity weddings and engagements

JANUARY

In January, long-time couple Iya Villania and Drew Arellano tied the knot in Batangas. It was a hush-hush wedding, with the media only discovering the wedding on the date itself, when Matanglawin host Kim Atienza tweeted he was determined to go to the wedding despite being stuck in traffic.

FEBRUARY

February, the month of love, had singer Aiza Seguerra proposing to actress Liza Diño during a play in UP. Last December 8, the couple married in the US, with a party scheduled in Manila.

The couple’s union was celebrated by the LGBT community and by theirs fans and friends. In a recent interview on Startalk, Aiza and Liza said they are now discussing expanding their family via In Vitro Fertilization.

TV 5 stars Alwyn Uytingco and Jennica Garcia  also got married in February 12, announcing last October during the press conference for Wattpad Presents. The couple is expecting their first child early 2015.

MARCH

After news surfaced last year that Karylle was engaged to Sponge Cola’s Yael Yuzon, Karylle later confirmed that they were getting married. Last March, the two tied the knot at the San Antonio de Padua Church in Silang, Cavite

The couple’s wedding footage was later incorporated into the music video for Sponge Cola’s single “Singapore Sling.”

It was also in March when singer Yeng Constantino got engaged to boyfriend Yan Asuncion. The two met in 2012 and got together in 2013. It has been announced that they will wed sometime in February or March of 2015.

March, also Bianca's birth month, was definitely the month JC Intal had in mind when he decided to finally propose to girlfriend Bianca Gonzalez.

On her way to a flight bound for London, Bianca was surprised to see people with a banner asking her to say yes, with JC emerging, kneeling in front of her with a ring. The video and photos went viral. Nine months after the engagement, the two tied the knot in El Nido, Palawan on December 4, followed by a big wedding reception at the Araneta Coliseum on December 10.

Former beauty queen Miriam Quiambao also tied the knot in March with Christian author Ardy Roberto in Tagaytay. This is the second marriage for both.

MAY

2014 has been a very eventful year for Super Selfie creator and star Gab Valenciano – following a brief unaired stint on America's Got Talent, he worked with Lil Jon and collaborated with Beyonce on her "7/11" video – plus, he got engaged to girlfriend Tricia Centenera

The month of May saw two special moments. Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda proposed to girlfriend, actress Neri Naig, which was recorded on video. Seven months after the proposal, the two had two weddings – a civil ceremony and the wedding proper in Tagaytay last December 13 and 14. Their union signified their love for each other, following a sex video scandal that tested the couple in 2013.

Heartthrob Jericho Rosales has had several high profile relationships, but on May 1, he finally said "I do" to one woman – model and TV host Kim Jones. Their wedding celebrations were held at Shangri-La in Boracay. The star of The Legal Wife proposed to Kim in 2013, during a fellowship they attended on Kim’s birthday.

Veteran actress Boots Anson-Roa married lawyer Francisco "King" Rodrigo in June. The wedding was officiated by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle.

Although she officially got engaged last June, Bossa Nova songstress Sitti Navarro only confirmed the news in July. In a chat with Rappler via Facebook, Sitti said that her fiancé Joey Ramirez proposed to her before on one of their running dates. The wedding date has yet to be announced, but Sitti said they will wed sometime in 2015.

AUGUST

August saw two couples – Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera and Heart Evangelista and Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero making headlines. On her birthday special, Dingdong knelt before Marian and asked for her hand in marriage

The proposal on national television was not the first as Dingdong already proposed to Marian in 2012 at the Butterfly Dome in Macau. In what's being billed as the "Royal Wedding," the two will tie the knot on December 30.

Heart and Chiz’s love story features twists and turns worthy of a telenovela. Heart found herself fighting for Chiz against her parents in 2013, when they went on national television to declare they were against the relationship.

Although Chiz has long being rumored to ask Heart’s hand in marriage in Paris, it was in his province of Sorsogon where the romantic proposal took place, witnessed by their friends, family, and Chiz’s twins from a previous marriage.

Following their engagement, controversy continued to hound them, when it was reported that a couple’s wedding was bumped off in Balesin Island on February 14, Heart’s birthday to give way to them. The couple, sportscaster Cesca Litton and fiancé Tyke Kalaw claimed that they already had reservations made, when they were told that February 14 was being reserved. Chiz and Heart later clarified the issue and has since made the announcement that their wedding will be held on February 15.

It was also in August that Patrick Garcia proposed to his girlfriend Nikka Martinez. The couple has one daughter, while Patrick has a son, Alex Jazz with former girlfriend Jennylyn Mercado. According to Patrick, the wedding is scheduled early 2015.

SEPTEMBER

For John Prats, dancing is one of the best methods of self-expression, and that’s what he exactly did, when he staged a flash mob to propose to girlfriend Isabel Oli in September. In an interview on The Buzz, Isabel said that she and John’s sister Camille were only going to Eastwood to go shopping, when she got the surprise of her life. The couple are set to wed either May or June 2015.

NOVEMBER

Actress and TV host Amy Perez finally got her wish to marry long time partner Carlo Castillo on November 12, more than 15 years after waiting for her first marriage to singer Brix Ferraris to be annulled. The wedding was held at The Mango Farm, witnessed by their family, kids and friends.

Actor Joross Gamboa also tied the knot with girlfriend Katz Saga.

DECEMBER

Love was definitely in the air in December with two more couples getting engaged. Singer Nyoy Volante admitted that he proposed to his girlfriend, actress Mikkie Bradshaw, last July. In an interview with Pep last December 2, Nyoy said that he and Mikkie will wed late 2015.

Friends of actress Solenn Heussaff and boyfriend Nico Bolzico meanwhile broke the news on Instagram last December 11, that the couple was officially engaged. Although Solenn has yet to talk about the engagement, Nico posted a photo of them with the caption “forever makes sense now.”
